AN ANALYTICAL STUDY ON THE RELATIONSHIP AMONG PI, GI, SOHI AND PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF MIXED SALIVA

Abstract
Intraoral tissue is affected by saliva both directly and indirectly, whether it is in healthy or unhealthy condition, for is always immersed in saliva. Therefore the author realized the importance of finding out the effect of saliva for prevent,oof oral disease, and performed this study for the purpose of searching the effect of physical properties and cheri composition of saliva on the oral environment and oral disease.
Flow rate, viscosity, buffering capacity, calcium, phosphorus and fluoride ion concentrations of wholes saliva, and plate index, gingival index, SOH index, DS index, DMFS index were examined and comparative study was performed.
The obtained results were as follows;
1. Calcium ion concentration of whole saliva was 62.04¡¾12.07 - 78.28¡¾23.42pprn, the calcium ion concentration differs between low and high PI group was statistically significant (P< 0.05). But the difference of calcium ion concentratia between two groups classified by GI and SOHI respectively was not significant.
2. Phosphorus and fluoride ion of Whole saliva was 6.13¡¾2.91 8.16¡¾4.80, and 0.06¡¾0.02 - 0.08¡¾O.Olppm. Neither concentration difference between two groups classified by PI,GI, and SOHI respectively was significant.
3: Flow rate, viscosity, and buffering capacity of whole saliva was 8.65¡¾2.81 12.04¡¾4.41mf/5min., 1.22¡¾ 0.08 - 1.28¡¾0.01 and 0.44¡¾0.12 0.53¡¾0.25mt. No difference between two groups along the level of PI, GI, and SOHI was signific t:
4. DS index and DMFS index was 1.80¡¾2.07 - 3.47¡¾2.75, 7.27¡¾5.67 - 12.86¡¾7.85. Neither index difference between two groups along the level of PI, GI, and SOHI was significant.
5. All the relevant correlation coefficients(r) were not significantly different from zero.
